Welcome to Chartography.net — insights and delights from the world of data storytelling.
🍎 Next week I begin teaching Persuasive Data Graphics in-person at San Francisco’s Letterform Archive using original historic data graphics (and lots of modern digital ones too). There is one seat remaining. Learn more and sign-up here.
Today we launch the first Visionary Press “capsule collection”—a set of unisex, women’s fitted, and heavyweight tees. (Heavyweight describes the quality of the fabric, not the wearer.)
Dozens of you ordered the PIE CHART FAN CLUB design from earlier this year. (Which, has since been improved!) Thank you, you motivated me to design more.
I believe information graphics deserve stylish tees.
This collection wouldn’t have happened without Nigel Holmes, who allowed me to use his iconic MONSTROUS COSTS (1982). With his support, I colored a new variant monster because we both love blue.
MONSTROUS COSTS is one of several two-sided tees, many of which are available in a variety of colors.
Researching this collection, I studied graphic tees on Instagram, high-end fashion tees, and reviewed my library of information graphics (of course). Beyond MONSTROUS COSTS, the historic designs are completely redrawn and rendered for this collection.
My personal favorite is the JUBILEE baseball tee. It celebrates an 1885 international meeting of statisticians in London with Luigi Perozzo’s stereogram, and boasts “For the Advancement of Statistical Science”—a rallying cry from back then that still rings true today.
All tees are made using high-quality Direct to Garment (DTG) printing technology, which ensures vibrant colors, fine detail, and long-lasting prints. This eco-friendly process uses water-based inks for a soft feel and durability wash after wash. Further, I’ve upped the quality on all the “heavyweight” tees to a product that is about 50% heavier than your normal graphic tee.
Shop the whole collection at Visionary Press.
Previewing next edition: I received word today that restoration is complete of my Edmund Halley map and charts. I’ve invested more money this year in preserving rare information-graphics than acquisition. Behind the scenes on that, next time.
Onward!—RJ
